Action A.1 Request of authorizations M1-M12
The documentation request by the local authorities for the construction plants and their operation will be filled with the info provided by action B1.
Responsible: Eco Recycling
Others partners: Technosind, UEVORA and Talete
Action B.1 Design and construction of the prototypes M1-M19
B1.1 Prototype for bio-adsorbents production
It will include the draw up of a detailed process flowsheet, equipment design, tendering, plant construction and commissioning.
B1.2 Prototype for water treatment
It will include the draw up of a detailed process flowsheet, equipment design, tendering, plant construction and commissioning.
Responsible: Technosind
Others partners: Eco Recycling, UEVORA, HTR, Talete and ALFO
Action B.2 Demonstration activity: bio-adsorbent production and efficiency tests M14-M27
B2.1 Olive Pomace pre-treatment
The olive pomace produced will be collected and pre-treated producing 6700 kg for action B2.
B2.2 HTC reactor set-up
Some preliminary tests for the setting of the reactor for hydrothermal carbonization will be carry out.
B2.3 Bio-adsorbents (Fe-hydrochar) production
The pre-treated olive pomace will be used in the prototype plant constructed in B1.1 to produce bio-adsorbent. 1500 kg will be used for water treatment in action B3, 20 kg will be used for the replicability (B4) and 10 kg for the transferability (B4).
Responsible: Eco Recycling
Others partners: Technosind, UEVORA, HTR and ALFO
Action B.3 Demonstration activity: water treatment M20-M35
B3.1 Initial setting of the water treatment prototype
In this sub-task, only one column of the prototype will be packed with bio-adsorbents in order to set up the operative parameters to be maintained during water treatment.
B3.2 Operative phase: treatment of the contaminated water
After the set-up, the prototype will treat arsenic-contaminated water from one of the sources in the area of Viterbo (Lazio, Italy). The outlet water will be analyzed to check the efficiency of the treatment.
B3.3 Management of the exhausted adsorbent
The exhausted bio-adsorbent will be fed in a gasifier in order to recover energy.
Responsible: Talete
Others partners: Eco Recycling, Technosind and HTR
Action B.4 Transferability and replicability actions M13-M35
For replicability, an outdoor portable water purification prototype, working with the bio-adsorbent produced in B2 action will be constructed and operated in Portugal. Such unit will treat 100 L/d of water from different collection points in Portugal. Transferability will be assessed by demonstrating the removal of emerging organic pollutants and the applicability to different feedstock biomasses by means of a 6 L pilot plant.
Responsible: UEVORA
Others partners: Eco Recycling, Technosind and HTR
Action B.5 Economic feasibility assessment M6-M35
B5.1 Analysis of product marketability
It will be to evaluate the cost of the raw materials used in the two processes (validated in the project), identify the possible applications for the products obtained and evaluate the relative revenue derived from their sale.
B5.2 Analyses of economic feasibility
The analyses will entail quantifying the costs associated to plant construction, reagents, energy consumption, wastes disposal and personnel costs. Economic feasibility of the process for the production of bio-adsorbents and the process for the water treatment will be carried out.
B5.3 Elaboration of business plan
The outcomes of the activities performed under sub-actions will be exploited to elaborate three separate business plans targeting the industrial-scale application of the proposed technologies.
Responsible: Technosind
Others partners: Talete, Eco Recycling, UEVORA and ALFO
Action C.1 Monitoring and environmental and socio-economic impact M19-M36
C1.1 Monitoring the project impacts (Key Project Indicators)
Key Project Indicators identified for the proposal will be updated during project running in order to assess the project impacts.
C1.2 Monitoring the project activities
Monitoring of main project activities will be performed identifying key achievements for each one.
C1.3 Evaluation of the impact assessment by LCA
The global environmental impact will be evaluated by means of a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The production and application of the commercial product, namely granular ferric hydroxide will be the baseline to perform the LCA.
Responsible: Eco Recycling
